July 2009 :: Marks Goes Vegas style!
Terry was present at the Eurie Creative Digital Showcase as a 'design
expert' along with Lee Horswill of Ameristar Resorts and Casinos.
Victor Rodriguez of Eurie organized the event showcasing how the possibilities
of digital printing can be pushed. Sponsored by Mohawk, Graphics West,
Brett Wesley Gallery and thankfully, IS Vodka.
July 2009 :: Terry Gets Schooled
In the summer heat of lovely Smyrna, TN (just outside of Nashville)
Terry joined judges Mary Hooper of Thomas Nelson Publishers and Noel
Lorson of Middle Tennessee State University to select the best work
by University and College Design Association members. With more than
1200 entries, the cool of the gym was welcome and the quality of work
surprising and, well, educational.
February 2009 :: Terry Evangelizes for SAPPI
On behalf of the Ideas That Matter program of SAPPI papers, Terry
addressed Academy of Art University in San Francisco. SAPPI annually
awards grants on behalf of non-profits to further the common good.
Designers apply for the grant and donate their work. The funds are
used for production, photography and the like. tmarks design was awarded
a grant to fund the production of materials for ASTAR for Autism in
2008.
January 2009 :: Marks Repeats Profound Things Overheard
Graphic Artists Guild Seattle invites Marks to speak on lessons learned
over 20 years in the industry and good practices during an economic
downturn.
January 2009 :: Virtual Lecture
Terry gave his first lecture via the web at the behest of Gary Rozanc,
professor of design at Truman State University way out in Missouri.
Perhaps he should not have in his boxers...
July 2008 - tmarks wins SAPPI Grant to support ASTAR
SAPPI Fine Papers has names tmarks as one of 20 design firms awarded
an Ideas That Matter grant. tmarks has worked with ASTAR, the Autism
Spectrum Treatment and Research Center, for years and will utilize
the grant to forward their cause.
Sappi established Ideas That Matter in 1999 to recognize, encourage
and fund the wide variety of programs for the social good to which
designers were already contributing their time and talents pro bono.
These include groups involved in education and health, science, the
environment, and social conditions.
March 2008 - Marks Made Fellow
As part of a national effort on part of AIGA, the professional organization
for design, Terry Marks was named an AIGA Fellow for the Seattle Chapter.
The Fellow award program is "a means of recognizing mature designers
who have made a significant contribution to raising the standards
of excellence in practice and conduct within their local or regional
design community as well as in their local AIGA chapter." A terrific
honor, Marks joins the ranks of a group of designers who have been
so honored across the country
February 2008 - tmarks joins relief effort
In response to the wildfires that rampaged across southern California,
tmarks has joined the host of contributors in the So-Cal Fire Poster
Project. The effort, started by San Diego's Josh Higgins will sell
limited edition, signed posters by a host of designers with the proceeds
to benefit fire victims. The Salvation Army will receive and distribute

February 2007 - Kong comes to tmarks
A seasoned veteran of advertising, marketing and design, Kong Lu joins
tmarks as a senior designer. Late of Red Army, Kong brings 20 years
of experience to the firm along with awards from numerous organizations
including Print, the Halo Awards and the Society of Illustrators and
most recently, from the National Ski Area Association for the top
marketing campaign of 2006: The Winter of Love. You may barrage him

January 2007 - tmarks sneaks into CA
Communication Arts, perhaps the most prestigious design and advertising
publication, selected a piece co-penned by Terry Marks and designed
by Rule 29 for its Self-Promotion category. In addition, tmarks collaborated
on concept and even custom-sculpted the character, Cato.

April 2007 - terry goes camping
Terry Marks will host a storytelling workshop at Into the Woods, the
biennial AIGA Seattle excursion to Leavenworth's Sleeping Lady Lodge.
Terry joins presenters such as Michael Hodgson, Jakob Trollback and
more for the fun.

May 2006 - Marks profiled in national publication
Terry Marks, principal of tmarks was profiled along with long-distance
collaborator, Justin Ahrens, in a leading national design publication,
HOW Magazine. The June 2006 issue chronicled the four award-winning
collaborative efforts that resulting from this tag-team creative effort.

February 2006 - Terry Judges Hawaii
Along with designers DJ Stout of Pentagram and Justin Ahrens of Rule
29, Terry judged the 2006 Pele Awards in Honolulu, HI. The most prestigious
awards for creative professionals in our 50th state, the opportunity
was as much an honor as it was enjoyable. It also reminded Terry he

October 2005 - Terry judges STEP Inside 100 Design Competition
In lovely Lake Geneva, WI Terry joined other judges Dana Lytle, Jilly
Simmons, John Bielenberg and DJ Stout to judge the Step 100. The competition
selects a mere 100 design projects and dedicates a page to each to
explain the background of each, a unique tact among competitions.
Also unique is the fact that the Lake Geneva Lodge is a former Playboy
resort.

October 2005 - Terry speaks ADAC
The ADAC of Sacramento, CA hosted Terry to speak on inspiration and
creative growth. For this, Marks was able to return to a town from
this youth, where he and his family lived behind Railey’s Grocery
and the Jerry Lewis Theatre.
October 2005 - Terry judges Omaha
Yang Kim of bbk studio, Eric Heiman of Volume {design} and our Mr.
Marks were the judges for the 2005 AIGA Nebraska Design Awards. The
weekend included a presentation by each judge, the actual judging
and meals at great bars, taverns and Italian joints unchanged since
